OpenClaw without the terminal

Beginner paths when you want an assistant, not a shell hobby

Page scope: OpenClaw is still a Gateway you operate—some commands appear eventually. This guide minimizes terminal time and points to GUI or browser flows first. For the full CLI walkthrough see Getting started tutorial.

Search interest shifted from hype to “how do I actually run this?” If terminals scare you, start with one of the paths below. Each gets you to a first message; you can learn CLI maintenance later.

Path A — macOS app

  1. Download the latest DMG from Releases (stable v2026.6.5 as of this writing).
  2. Install OpenClaw like any Mac app; grant permissions when prompted.
  3. Use in-app onboarding for model provider and your first channel.
  4. Open WebChat or pair Telegram/WhatsApp from the UI where available.

Details: macOS platform guide.

Path B — Setup Wizard (browser)

  1. Install once via installation one-liner or npm (unavoidable first step on Linux/Windows).
  2. Open Setup Wizard in your browser—it walks provider keys, channels, and skills.
  3. Finish with WebChat or a channel quickstart: Telegram is the fastest.

Path C — Managed hosting

If you do not want to babysit a VPS, providers in managed hosting run the Gateway for you. You still configure models and channels, but updates and uptime are their problem. Compare cost to API spend in how much does OpenClaw cost?
